J´ai perdu ma tête

There are words that sound too narrow, underlying the complexity of their meaning, words that are nothing but codes, in an exercise of simplification. “Insanity” is one of them. Granser opens countless windows on a world that is unknown – and consequently feared – by replacing words with photography. It’s up to us looking out of these windows, to dig below the surface, to catch the slightest gap between what exists and what we only choose to call real. Intervention: The Tea Garden during Art Basel

Intervention: The Tea Garden during Art Basel

Photo: Alex Kern

During the bustle of Art Basel, Edition Taube and the collectors platform Independent Collectors invited a small number of guests to join The Tea Garden.

Artists Peter Granser (A) and Thomas Jeppe (AU) each hosted a number of tea sessions as starting points for contemplation and conversation.

In the midst of Basel week, we met in the private garden of Thomas Pilscheur to sit in a minimalistic surrounding designed by Friederike Daumiller (DE).

The Tea Garden was a concept of tranquility in a week of overflowing impressions. It had no art, no performance, no agenda and no theoretical framework.

I started The Tea Garden with Edition Taube during Art Basel. It was kindly supported by the collectors platform Independent-Collectors.

If you are interested in upcoming sessions please contact tea@editiontaube.de

Schattenfelder

Inspired by Basho's traveldiary Oku no Hosomichi Peter Granser went for his new project Schattenfelder ( fields of shadow ) on long walks in the Itoshima countryside. Resulting from these excursions is an artistic survey of the rural present by photography, video and sound with the focus being on rather unusual and abstract disruptions alongside the country lanes. The forces of nature on the landscape play an essential role in this new work, that is shown as an installation in the Matsuzaki house, in combination with a sound installation by german artist Johannes Schlichting, who used field recordings, that Granser made in 2013 during his residency and transferred them into an intense composition.

The exhibition was supported by Bundeskanzleramt Österreich and ifa-Institute.
